Intel® DMI 2.0 Service Provider (SP) SDK Version 1.0 for Novell NetWare*
The DMI 2.0 Service Provider (SP) Software Developer Kit (SDK) Version 1.0 for NetWare provides tools and utilities that help developers of local DMI 2.0 management applications and component instrumentation for Novell NetWare 4.1x servers. It is also intended to complement the Intel DMI 2.0 Service Provider SDK for Win32*, enabling remote access from Win32 management applications over ONC-RPC to managed NetWare nodes.
The "DMI 2.0 Service Provider SDK for NetWare Reference Manual," containing detailed information about the SDK and its source files and examples, is included with the SDK as an Adobe Acrobat* PDF file.
Who should use the DMI SDK?
- OEMs who wish to instrument servers hosting the Novell NetWare operating system.
- Independent Hardware Vendors (IHVs) or Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) who wish to instrument products which execute on the Novell NetWare operating system.
- Server OEMs, IHVs or ISVs who wish to develop local or remote management applications which manage NetWare servers.
System Requirements:
The server hosting the DMI Service Provider must support NetWare version 4.1x.
In order to remotely access DMI information on the NetWare server, the client must support Windows* 95 or Windows NT*, with:
For more information, see the DMI 2.0 Service Provider SDK for NetWare release notes.
DMI Benefits:
- DMI is an Operating System/Network Operating System-independent management framework that allows system vendors to support multiple market/customer segments with a single management strategy.
- DMI lowers the total cost of ownership by providing a common framework for managing mobile systems, desktop systems and servers.
- DMI supports a management schema (Management Information Format [MIFs]), which allows vendors to describe the manageable components of their products in a standard descriptive language. MIFs are extensible, allowing vendors to export their value-added management capabilities.
- Value-added management features can easily be built into products without prior knowledge of target platform configuration or management applications.
- DMI supports local and remote access to a system’s management capabilities via Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs), which are available in many networked operating environments.
The SDK provides the following:
- DMI 2.0 Service Provider establishes the link between managed products and the applications that deliver management value to users.
- "DMI 2.0 Service Provider SDK for NetWare Reference Manual" provides an overview of the SDK, including installation instructions and options; an introduction to DMI technology; guidelines for developing DMI-enabled systems; tips for modeling MIF files; DMI 2.0 code samples and process diagrams; DMI SDK procedure library functions and code samples; an overview of the tools and utilities included in the SDK; and a comprehensive glossary of DMI terms.
- Reference documentation (Desktop Management Task Force, Inc. [DMTF] standards, white papers and technical briefs).
